What are Accounts / Ledgers?
In Tally, you can create a personalized Chart of Accounts that reflects the nature of your business.
- Accounts / Ledgers are used to record all financial transactions
- Each ledger affects Assets, Liabilities, Income, or Expenses
- Every accounting entry always uses ledger names, not narration alone
- ledger account heads are created to identify transactions.
👉 No ledger = No accounting entry
Primary Ledger Groups in TallyPrime.
There are 28 predefined groups in TallyPrime. These groups are part of the Chart of Accounts for most organizations. Out of the 28 predefined groups, 15 are primary groups of which nine Primary groups appear in the Balance Sheet that are capital in nature and six Primary groups appear under Profit & Loss A/c, which are revenue in nature and 13 are subgroups which are shown below. You can create any number of primary groups and subgroups but Primary groups in TallyPrime cannot be deleted.
Types of ledgers: Tally provides 28 pre-defined ledger groups:
- 15 Primary Groups
- 13 Sub-Groups
📌 Sub-groups are collections of ledgers with similar nature.
