📦 Units for Stock Items 

Depending on your business, you may buy or sell stock items in different units.
For example, you can use simple units like Meters, Kilograms, or Numbers.
If you sell items in standard packs (like 100 Kg per box), TallyPrime allows you to create units as per your business requirements.

🛠 How to Create Units for Stock Items

📌 Simple Unit Creation

🪜 Method 1: Create Unit While Creating Stock Item (On-the-Fly)

  1. While creating a Stock Item, move the cursor to the Unit field.
  2. Press Alt + C to create a Unit Master on-the-fly.
  3. The Unit Creation (Secondary) screen will open.

🪜 Method 2: Create Unit from Masters

  1. Go to Gateway of Tally.
  2. Select Create (under Masters).
  3. Choose Unit and press Enter.

📝 Fill Unit Creation Details

  1. Symbol: Enter short name (Example: Kg, Nos, Pcs).
  2. Type: Select Simple (default selection).
  3. Formal Name: Enter full unit name (Example: Kilogram, Numbers).
  4. Unit Quantity Code (UQC):
    Select the appropriate UQC from the list.
    This list is based on Government / GSTN standard codes.
  5. Number of Decimal Places:
    Enter decimals based on business need.
    Example:
    • 0 for Numbers (Nos, Pcs)
    • 2 or 3 for Kg, Ltr (if selling in fractions)
  6. Press Y to Accept or press Ctrl + A to Save.

📌 Example

If you are selling Rice:

  • Symbol: Kg
  • Formal Name: Kilogram
  • UQC: KGS
  • Decimal Places: 2

🧠 Important Notes

  • Simple Unit is used for single measurement type (Kg, Nos, Ltr).
  • Compound Unit is used when combining units (Example: Box of 100 Nos).
  • UQC selection is important for GST Returns.
